Pew Research: Increase in Smartphone and Tablet Ownership

Smartphone and tablet ownership has increased dramatically – over 35% since 2011 – according to a recent report issued by the Pew Research Center.   At the same time, desktop and laptop ownership has decreased.

These statistics emphasize the importance of a MOBILE FRIENDLY website.  The term often used in web development is “responsive” – meaning the site responds to the type of device that is being used and adjusts accordingly.

Mobile responsiveness also plays a key role in search engine results.  Google recently updated their ranking system to give higher search result rankings to sites it deems mobile friendly.  In fact, sites that are determined to be NOT mobile friendly are likely to drop out of Google search results completely!
